Outstanding speaker system Jun 18, 2010 I'm usually disappointed when it comes to sound, but I'm TOTALLY happy with my iM9. I've had it for over 2 years, and I still love the sound that it produces. I also have the iM7, which also sounds great, but when it comes to sound AND portability, my little iM9 is my favorite. I'm still amazed to this day that such rich, clear sound comes from such a small and simple package. The sound is rich and full even at low levels, and doesn't distort as the volume level increases. Of course there is a limit to how loud it can go, but to expect more than this delivers is unreasonable considering what it is.
Yes, it is a little heavy, but considering how good it sounds I can EASILY overlook that. Heck, with sound like this, something's gotta give --- and in this case it's apparently weight. The grabbing notch in the back is more of an indentation, and could be a better design, but it's not a problem. I can still easily take it anywhere. Another quirk that I have with mine is that when you power it on, the volume is by default at a very high level. The solution is simple: When I power it on, I make sure that the iPod isn't playing anything, and simply press the volume decrease button about 10 times before I actually play anything. Second nature after a while.
I have an iPod 30G Photo, and even with the adjustment set to the smallest position, I have to insert a piece of thin cardboard behind to make it snug up against the support. Again, not a problem --- simple solution. I'm getting my wife a Nano for her birthday next month, and if I can't find something from Altec Lansing to accomodate it, I will create some modification. If I can't work something out, I'll get her a Nano specific speaker system. I'll guarantee you that the first company I'll be looking at is Altec Lansing.
Is it perfect? No. But the sound is outstanding enough, where I can overlook, and work around any imperfection that exists. Overall I love it, and would recommend it to anybody, anywhere, anytime. It's all about the sound, and in that regard, it definitely does not disappoint. In my case, it just continues to impress.
altec speaker dock for ipod May 30, 2010 I received promptly. I felt the instructions were not very good (the problem may be me!). Also my ipod when it's inserted does not center up with the opening. Not particularly happy with what should be a simple procedure. The sound reproduction is fine.
Great Product Mar 15, 2010 This player is easy to use. The sound is awesome. It weighs more than the average ipod player but the quality makes up for it and the back pack that it comes in is very sturdy BUY IT!!!!
Great performance but part missing Jan 13, 2010 I bought these speakers as a gift for a minister who wished to use them for small outdoor religious services, such as weddings, memorial services, and the like. They seem to be well suited for this. They are relatively compact and light weight. Running on four C batteries, they provide a rich and powerful sound. Unfortunately, we encountered one problem. If you wish to use household current to power the speakers, you need to connect the transformer (called power supply) to one of several adapters suitable for domestic or international use. We received one adapter in the package that was for 120 V AC current. However, it did not look like the adapters pictured in the parts lists on the box, and we could not attach it to the transformer. Thus, we could not use household current to power these speakers. The package appeared to have been sealed at the factory. Thus, as best I can tell, the seller was not responsible for this problem. Our only choice was to return the product. Altec Lansing iM9 inMotion Mobile Speaker Dock for iPod (Black)
No remote, no power adapter, no ipod Touch charging, no video cables Dec 24, 2009 1st - the positive - it sounds great. I'm still taking it back to where I bought it.
The killer about this is the packaging itself: it SAYS that it charges ipods. Great, except that it doesn't charge ALL ipods, (including my ipod Touch). It SAYS that you can connect it to most TVs with a composite connection, except that there's no cable allowing you to do so. It SAYS that it uses 110 ~ 220v, but the only adapter that's with it is 110v, and since I live in Germany that's not very practical. A remote control also could have been useful. In fact, everything I mentioned is common in similar equipment (even other items from Altec Landsing).
Yes - I can get a cable to connect it to a TV. And, I can get a power adapter. And I can get by without charging the ipod on it, and, I can get up to change programs, or shut it off. But, you know what? It's Christmas Eve, I can't fix the issues that I have with it tonight - or tomorrow. I'm boxing it back up, and it's going back to the store on Sunday.
To add insult to injury - I paid $194 for it, and I see here that I can get it for half price almost anywhere else. So, this is definitely being returned. Thought this was brand new, yet apparently has been around for a number of years - looks now like something AAFES had overstock in their warehouse and placed it on an endcap hoping that some fool like me would come along and snatch it up.
