5Denon Dual zone receiver  Dec 27, 2009
I love this receiver. Unfortunately, my last Denon died. I loved the sound quality so I got this. You can watch TV or a DVD in the Living room and Listen to music or TV or what ever out side with the second zone. Of course the Denon are the only receivers I have to hiring someone to set up because this surround sound stuff gets complicated, when you have Ipod, DVD, VCR Satelite DVR on Cable etc. I have had this for maybe a year or 2 and it is great. REMOTE IS A POOR DESIGN. Changing from Cable to SAT or zone 2 is on the back side of the remote behind a door. Not difficult, just could have been easier on the front.

1Consider Onkyo  Jul 13, 2009
I have had this reciever for 6 months and watched 14 movies with it and the HDMI output has stopped working. Consider Denon's warranty when purchasing this product. When the reciever goes bad, the consumer is responsible for shipping cost to one of 6 service centers in the country. They run on a 3 week backlog. I will really enjoy disconnecting, waiting 3 weeks, paying for shipping, and reconnecting the reciever in my dedicated home theater room. I will hook up my spare Onkyo that works in the meantime.

4Great reciever for the price  Apr 21, 2009
Nice power, good channel seperation, great sound. If you have a lot of devices going to this device that use optical or HDMI you may run out of inputs. When using the reciever to switch HDMI video, the picture seems too saturated or altered or something. Maybe there is a setting on the device that could elimiate this, or maybe I could adjust my TV (1080p plasma) to compensate, but after watching a bit of TV I plugged the HDMI cable directly to the TV instead of going through this reciever.

5Awesome sound and value - AVR 988  Mar 22, 2009
I installed the Denon AVR-988 in my home theater system approximately one month ago. The sound quality is excellent and crystal clear with power to spare. Prior to buying this unit, I read most of the reviewers' comments on this site which convinced me to buy it. Another selling point was of course the price; I got this unit from Amazon in February 2009 for less than $500. In summary, this is an excellent AVR for listening to Audio CDs and Movies! Also, the set up right out the box was very easy for me and I am by no means an expert when it comes to audio-visual equipment. The user's manual was not difficult at all to understand; I found it to be very logically written and helpful.

I would recommend the Denon AVR-988 to anyone looking to buy a quality AVR for their home theater system; make sure that you couple it with a high quality speaker system (including a subwoofer). Great AVR!!

3Top of line Video Audio Receiver with 115Wpc  Mar 03, 2009
Denon really came through with this receiver. I was contemplating between OnkyoTS SR 806 and Denon AVR 988. I am glad to have AVR 988 instead Onkyo. This unit has plenty of power to rock the whole house while watching movies and network connected Ipod (ASD-3n) is best toy ever made by any audio companies. AVR 988 has digital audio correction which really improves audio quality of mp3 files and CDs and my composit DVD output to stunning 1080P . Before I decide on AVR 988, I tested AVR989 (2009 model) for any difference. Only difference between AVR 988 from AVR 989 is number of HDMI port inputs. AVR 988 was bargain ($500USD) from Amazon and from web dealers. I have AVR 988 for about 4 month now. I have no complaint but praises only for my Denon. This unit is solid Japanese built high end unit.
