Usually ships in 1 business days | | | | | | The iC172 iPod dock alarm clock radio by Emerson features more than an iPod docking station. It features an integrated LCD projector which allows you to project the time in LARGE numerals onto your wall or ceiling. The large projected display is ideal for anyone who has poor vision or a difficult time seeing without the aid of eye glasses. The time also displays on the 0.9-inch red LED display located on the face of the clock radio even if the time is not being projected to your ceiling. The iC172 is compatible with all dockable iPod models and charges all iPod batteries when connected to the docking station. With Emerson's award-winning and patented SmartSet technology, the flashing "12:00" display is a thing of the past. On the first use the iC172 immediately sets itself to the correct year, month, date, day, and time based on the time zone you specify. It also adjusts automatically for Daylight Saving Time, Leap Year and after power outages. The dual alarm system features two alarms that can be programmed separately - one for you and one for your partner. Both alarms can be programmed to operate on weekdays only, weekends only, or all seven days of the week. Turn on the snooze button by simply waving your hand in front of the sensor - no need to press a button. Getting out of bed will no longer be a chore with the help of the iC172. | | | |

Excellent value. Great features. Jul 24, 2010 Exactly what we needed, feature rich , especially for the price. FYI - when the unit arrived, it displayed a 'low battery' light and did not auto-set to the correct time, as advertised. I called Emerson (long hold time before I spoke to a person) and was told that our unit had a bad battery back-up and that they would send us a replacement. After removing the bad bat and setting the time manually, we were good to go. Installed the new battery on arrival, the low bat light went out, and we're in business.
One thing to know: this unit does not charge iPhones and iTouchs, although it will play them. Sony makes a nice unit that charges the iTouch that we picked up at Sam's Club for ~$70, the ICF-CS10iP. Essentially all the same features except the time projection.
Pleasantly Surprised Jul 03, 2010 I'm very happy with the Emerson iC172 iPod Dock Alarm Clock Radio. The time projector works great. I have mine across the room facing the bed and the projector has a setting to flip the image, so the time is right side up for me. My Gen 4 iPod Nano charges up while I listen to a bedtime mix. Sometimes I listen to the radio and reception is great.
Overall, I'm very happy.
Emerson Ipod clock radio May 15, 2010 I bought this clock Ipod radio for my son. He loves it.Likes the time projected on wall. Quality is very good.Came quickly via mail. Good price through Amazon. No regrets with this purchase.
Works well, handy features May 14, 2010 A few notes about the Emerson SmartSet iC172 iPod Dock Alarm Clock Radio. I bought 2 of these; one for home and one for work.
It's a lot bigger than what I had expected (11.25" wide x 5" deep x 4.75" high). It takes up a bunch of room on my side table, which I'm not too happy about. Also at work, it eats up some valuable workspace.
The price for this thing seems to be a bit high too. I would have expected it to be about $20-25 maximum.
Setting it up, you have to read the manual. It automatically sets the time and date if the internal battery is still energized. You have to change the time zone for which you live in and it's set. Really nice feature.
The speakers are a bit junky, but they do the job. The one at home I use as an alarm with the buzzer. The buzzer starts out quiet and gradually gets louder. I really like that feature. The one at work I use for playing my music thought some headphones. But I also set the alarm to alert me for meetings, which only goes off in the headphones (not through the speakers) when they are plugged in. I like that because it doesn't disturb anyone else in the proximity. It easily fits my 3rd generation 60GB iPod. Don't know if it would fit the 120GB or 160GB versions though. The manual doesn't mention either of them.
The laser projection works well in low light. You cannot see anything in daylight. It's my favorite feature. My girlfriend and I both have less than perfect eye sight, so this is great. Also, she doesn't have to crawl on top of me to be able to see what time it is (which is really nice in the middle of the night).
I didn't use it at home until I found some electrical tape to cover up the sensor. There were too many reviews that said it was way too sensitive, and people weren't getting an alarm at all. I couldn't afford to have that happen to me. I just covered it entirely.
The dual alarm is extremely handy. I use one for my wake up time and one for my girlfriend. Also the fact that you can set it so it only works on the weekdays allows me to keep it turned on through the weekend without it going off. Extremely handy features.
I would recommend this to anyone.

Sensor too sensitive May 09, 2010 We've had this clock for a couple of weeks and I'm looking to return it. I really like everything about the clock other than the sensor. The setup is extremely fast and easy, love the projection feature (it was a "neat" feature when I bought the clock, but now I really like it), ipod docking, dual alarm, gradual waking alarm. All great, great, great!
My problem is the sensor. It is VERY sensitive. I've found that when the alam starts going off, if it starts to wake me up and I move, it snoozes. Well, often times, I wasn't awake enough to realize it was going off. Also, once when the alarm started going off, my cat woke up and walked across the bed. That also snoozed the alarm. Can't really blame that on the sensor, just makes it impractical for us. The bedside lamp was moved a little (probably also caused by the cat) and it blocked the sensor causing the alarm to never go off. Now I'm looking for this exact clock, minus the sensor.
