The ER-4P earphones--which require no batteries--can be plugged into any audio source. They can be used with portable CD, MP3, DVD, and other players without an additional amplifier. The ER-4P earphones were designed to match the response of the ear, creating nearly perfect sound reproduction. They reduce external sound naturally by sealing your ear canals, without the added weight, bulk, or external power supply required for active noise-canceling. Their external noise exclusion (up to 33 dB using the supplied 3-flange eartips and 41 dB with foam eartips) lets you hear the full dynamic range of recordings without your having to play them at unnaturally high and unsafe levels. What's in the Box ER-4P MicroPro earphones, a 5-foot cord with 3.5 mm stereo phone plug, a .25-inch stereo phone adapter plug, six 3-flange eartips, 10 foam eartips, a filter-changing tool, 4 replacement filters, a shirt clip, a zippered pouch, a storage box, a user's manual, and warranty information. | | | |

Uncomfortable and poor sound Jul 20, 2010 I hated these headphones - they were VERY uncomfortable - I tried all of the tips provided. Even when I shoved them deep in my ear canal which was very uncomfortable, the bass was still very weak compared to other headphones.
A feast for your ears Jul 12, 2010 This is actually my second set of ER-4P's. My first set lasted five years, and I wore out the wires. The new set has some design changes that actually make them better from a usability standpoint. These are award winning earphones, and worth the money for me. They come with several different earpieces, you'll find a pair that are comfortable for you with no problem. The sound is outstanding, they are made to isolate your ears from external noise. Not for driving! I've listened to several other high end phones, and these are the ones I like best.
Excellent in-ear headphones Jul 10, 2010 I have tried many different headsets with my iPhone and these by far are the best.
Great Quality Jul 09, 2010 These are the most expensive ear buds I've purchased and they definitely have the audio quality to stand up to their price. They are an older, tried and true model and I don't see how you can go wrong with them. The part outside of the ear isn't very small which can be cumbersome during any athletic activity or while wearing any sort of ear covering. The cord also conducts mechanical sound to the ear very easily so any activity where the cord would be moving against the surface of anything else detracts from the audio quality. All of that said, I wouldn't return these for anything else.... though I do hope to try some of the smaller (and more expensive) products in the future.
Great sound, but only lasts one year before needing repairs! May 20, 2010 I loved the sound on these Etymotic earbuds, and their noise-canceling propoerties are second to none. The earbuds are comfortable, and other than a somewhat weak bass (even with a good earbud seal), the quality of sound for music and speech is fantastic. Unfortunately, almost exactly 1 year after buying these earbuds, one side's sound cut out. I sent them to Etymotic and they fixed a frayed wire in the Y-connector. Approximately one year later, the exact same thing happened. Once again, Etymotic fixed it under warranty. One year after that (now 3 years after purchase), the wire has frayed again. I don't know whether Eytmotic will fix it again, but this is annoying. It costs a fair amount to ship this back to the U.S. for repair yearly, and I am without my earbuds for 2-3 weeks. I think the problem lies with the weight of the Y-connector, which is covered under a thick plastic piece. Despite my keeping the earbuds in their case when not in use, and my use of the shirt clip (to hold the heaving Y-connector), this problem seems to recur yearly. Unfortunately, due to this issue, I can't recommend these earbuds despite their excellent sound and noise-canceling qualities.
