ETY-Plugs (TM) earplugs use patented technology that replicates the natural response of the ear canal so that sound heard with these earplugs is as clear as the original, just quieter. ETY-Plugs earplugs have nearly the same fidelity as Etymotic's Musicians Earplugs (TM) (custom earplugs worn by professional musicians) and are a low cost alternative. Hearing loss is a function of exposure time, the average sound level, and the peak level of very loud sounds. Exposure to excessive noise can cause permanent hearing loss depending on the intensity and duration of the sound. Some persons are more susceptible to hearing loss from high-level sound than others. Protect your ears. In high-noise environments, wear Ety-Plugs. Includes one pair of Ety-Plugs, carrying case, black neck cord and instructions.

5Clear across the spectrum at club concerts  Aug 31, 2010
My wife and I love to go to club concerts. Before we got these earplugs, we'd stand near the back of the room because it is so loud, and our ears would still ring until the next day. Not anymore. We recently attended two raging loud concerts at the House of Blues, but this time we felt comfortable going close to the front. At first I was not sure what to expect - I thought that maybe the experience would be watered down and muffled, as with traditional earplugs. But actually the sound was excellent! These earplugs let through just enough of the high frequencies and after a couple songs, I forgot that I was wearing them! We didn't have to take them out to engage in conversation. After the concert using these, we didn't have any ringing in the ears at all. Sometimes my ears would itch because this is made from some kind of rubbery material, so that's the only downside, although it didn't happen too often and pushing the stem around a bit was all that was needed to scratch to relieve the itch. It comes with a little flexible case that is just big enough to hold both earplugs and makes it easy to slip into a jean pocket.

5helps save your hearing during rock concerts  Aug 30, 2010
Went to a loud outdoor concert and it helped tremendously. Very happy to have had them in my ears.

3These work...but not for those concerned with appearance  Aug 30, 2010
I was very split about what rating to give these ear plugs. I attend a LOT of concerts, thus I feel it's important to have ear protection. I used to just wear your standard foam ear plugs, but I decided that maybe a higher-tech product would be worth the investment. To be honest, I think regular foam ear plugs work just fine, but that's a whole different story.

On one hand, I like these plugs because I do believe they reduce the sound level. But, not as much as you'd think. The noise level is still very high. In fact, the nature of these ear plugs I believe actually lends itself to failure. As you insert them in your ears, they actually open up your ear canal, in one sense letting in more sound. Maybe that's not how ears work, but I swear at times that I feel like the music is louder after I put these things in. My ears still ring after concerts for several hours, too.

The other reason I'm not sold on these ear plugs is the appearance. Don't think for a second that you won't be noticed in these things. I get a LOT of comments from people asking me why I'm wearing swimming ear plugs at a concert. After all, that's what they look like. The stems really stick out wide from the ear. When you're at a concert, particularly a GA Pit or something similar, you're going to be noticed. The worst is when the halogen lights shine on the audience. I think something lower profile would be better. I've even thought about going back to foam, flesh-colored earplugs, just so that I won't look so goofy at shows.

5For 7-13mm ear canals, and comes with a nice little case.  Aug 18, 2010
The product comes with a really nice, small case (smaller than the Hearos cases) and a cord that allows you to connect the two plugs together (if you like being able to drape them around your neck without using them). The case comes with a ball chain so you can fix it to your keychain! 5 stars for coming with really useful accessories. If you're used to the squishy foam earplugs, these won't reduce the sound as much as those do, but you will also be able to hear everything clearly.

The card that comes with the product says that it will fit normal ear canal diameters of 7-13mm. It is rated at 12 dB on the card "when used as directed." The card also describes how to clean the plugs, etc.

2Not ideal for on-line purchasing.  Aug 04, 2010
Unfortunately, there is little information that can be shared on-line to judge the best fit with any confidence, and no, one size will not miraculously squeeze to fit all. The item itself specifies that it may not be returned once opened. Short of interpreting their confusing pdf catalog and having an accurate measurement in mm of your ear canal, you're better off picking up a more generic pair at a drug store or getting properly fitted at any audio convention.
