5Excellent Power Adapter  Mar 28, 2010
My big HP Laptop (18.5 inches) has an equally big and heavy adapter that I was constantly unplugging and packing up.

HP had a "slim power adapter" that looked good until I got it and found out that it didn't put out enough power (despite being listed as compatible). They were gracious in their support and refund, but now I was on the hunt for a workable solution.

The Kensington Auto/Air Ultra fit the bill perfectly! It stays in my laptop bag and takes up less room (and less weight). It has adapters for this laptop (120 watts) and for just about any other one I come across (which is a surprisingly useful addition... like being able to charge up my wife's laptop with the same unit, or helping out a colleque that forgot his own adapter).

The really great bonus was the Auto/Air part. I had been using my laptop in my car for long periods a couple nights a week which required a noisy, power hungry 12 volt to 120 volt Transformer. It was working, but it was a pain. Now, with the Kensignton I can just plug in the 12 volt adapter and it works perfectly!

The only "unusual" aspect to this unit is the shape -- flat and wide. In my case it works out great as I expect it will for most. It should fit better in most user's "thinner" outside pouches and sections than the conventional bricks do, but it is different (good, but different).

5The best Wall/Air/CAR AC Adapter for Notebook I have used  Dec 28, 2009
I have owned a Kensington K33197 120W Auto/Air Ultra Portable for 2 years as a very frequent traveler. I am using it to power Thinkpads laptops and a older DELL laptop.
Smarttips are covering a very wide gamut of Laptops.
It DOES really work everywhere,
in cars (comes with the cigarette light adapter)
in all airplanes (it comes with the exact cable and the cigarette light adapter you need) and
as a regular wall charger.

Being on the road all the time, this has been my companion and has delivered very reliable power to my laptops as well as cellphone (for cellphone charging, I use the Kensington USB smarttip adapter. This is the one additional purchase you should think of to complement this very smart adapter). The only slight inconvenience is that I cannot charge the laptop and the cellphone or (other USB devices) at the same time, but if you think about it, it is not a major problem at all. However other adapter which can charge both at the same time are far bulkier and heavier.

I like also its form factor. Very slim helps fit it in my computer bag without creating bulkiness. Another very well aspect of it is its cables. A very short and well designed one to fit well in any wall socket (usually a problem with other adapters) and a very long cable from the adapter to the laptop, which is what anybody needs for instance while in an airport trying to connect to one of those rare AC sockets available in walls or columns.

I have done a lot of research and have used and finally discarded others like which are just not as compact, well designed and light as the Kensington K33197. I recommend it strongly to anybody.

Also important is their technical support. Try them out send them an email from their website. They are prompt and very thorough in their answers. They know their stuff very well. This si especially helpful as information on their website is scarce.

On the negative side: This adapter supports many laptops however I have now to find another adapter unfortunately because my office switched me to a new DELL Latitude E series laptop, which requires a smarttip unfortunately not available from Kensington for this adapter.

PROs: Weight, form factor, very slim, very well designed power cables, Air, Car, Wall, ability to charge USB devices (requires another $10 for the USB smarttip kit), strong technical support

CONs: does not support newer DELL Latitude laptops.

1Incompatible and unreliable  Nov 28, 2009
I bought this power supply for international travel, for usage on airplanes and with different voltages, using (mechanical) power adapters. I have a Dell Latitude D620 with a 6 cell battery (the regular one) and a 9 cell battery (large one).
Do not think about buying this power supply for a Dell D620. It is conveniently small but fairly unreliable.

Here my experience:
1. after a couple of weeks the tip did not work properly any more. So I had to stay in the service hotline queue for about 45 minutes in order to get a replacement for the N19 tip
2. I still get infrequent problems with the power supply not charging, specifically when in 240V countries (experienced in Germany, Taiwan, Korea)
3. Airplane mode is desastrous, if the airplane outlet is not having enough power or if it is providing a 12V outlet. My experience is with United Airlines (old business class seats):
a.) If any battery is plugged in, the power supply will not work when the computer is powered on - even if the battery is fully charged. In other words: it is running off battery
b.) When the battery is pulled the power supply is operating normal - but make sure you do not accidentally pull the power cord when moving in the seat
c.) When the computer is in stand-by the 6 cell battery is charged
d.) The 9-cell battery is not charged at all

Customer service is referring to maximum power specifications (I think 4.2 amps), which are NOT listed in any product brochure or documentation.

My recommendation: Even if the original universal power supply from Dell is a brick, it still works more reliably, especially with 240V and 12V airplane mode.

I cannot recommend this power supply at all.

5Best Adapter I have used to date.  Oct 17, 2009
This adapter has worked as described from the minute I got it. It does not run too hot. My only complaint would be the length of the AC cord which is so short that the adapter hangs from the socket at all times. I use the adapter to charge my cell phone and laptop when at home or on the go. I have also used it to charge my roomba. This is a good purchase and it seems to be of better build quality than other adapters I have owned. The 120w rating will allow it to pretty much charge any laptop assuming the charging tip is available for your laptop. Even if your current adapter is a different wattage, as long as it is under 120w it will work great.

3charges good, but hums for audio  Sep 07, 2009
this charges my 15" macbook pro. its charges wonderfully, but when i use the headphone jack, a terrible hum in emitted. im guessing it has something to do with the charge not being grounded? anyways, i hoping its inevitable? if someone knows different, please comment.
