1Total piece of s***  Mar 06, 2010
You could summarize my opinion of this device as follows: whoever designed this POS deserves to have the car adapter shoved up their rear ends.

A few highlights:
* iPod connector does not fit if your iPod is in ANY kind of skin, case, etc., because the plug is too wide.
* if the fancy-shmanzy display of the FM frequency in your iPod display does not work because you have the "wrong" model (as, apparently are both of my two different iPods), then you will NOT be able to adjust the frequency at all, not even blindly.
* the step-by-step instructions in the manual fail to mention that there is a power switch that needs to be turned "on" (okay, that's only a minor issue, but the lost time is really annoying).

5Best FM Transmitter for I-Pod  Dec 05, 2009
If you need a FM transmitter/charger to play your I-Pod in your car...this one work's!. I have tried them all and the Kensington is the best!

4Above average for an FM Transmitter  Sep 23, 2009
I bought 2 of these (one for me, one for my wife) because of the great price and iPod compatibility. I have had several other FM transmitters in the past, so I can compare. This one seems to be above average, but not perfect. To start, you have to accept the fact that FM transmitters have certain limitations. With that said, this one works decently. It displays the channel info on the iPod screen, which is better than others that have a dial or a small LCD screen down on the plug. However there is a little lag between when you push the button and when the FM channel changes, so you have to be patient or you will skip several channels at a time. It claims to be able to use any FM channel, but I found the two lowest on my car stereo (87.7 and 87.9 it think) are not available. As these are typically not used and would work great for an FM transmitter, this is sometimes a drawback. I find there is almost always a little static when using it in my Honda Accord, but something you can pretty easily get used to and ignore. The static does seem to pick up substantially if you move the iPod around (you need to find a good place in your console to put it and leave it). On the flip side, it seems to lock in much better with little or no static in my wife's Honda Pilot. She loves this thing. I guess it just depends on what kind of car you have. It does transmit the song and artist info from the iPod to the stereo screen if you have stereo that can show the radio station info (seems common on GM and other domestic cars). Honda radios don't have that, so I can't say much about it. Overall, pretty good for the money, just don't expect concert hall sound.

2Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...  May 13, 2009
I bought this transmitter for my wife's Nano 2G. It's worked fine, but you can definitely hear the background noise. Considering regular FM comes in very clear, it is puzzling to me that a receiver this close to the transmitter could pick up so much noise. Nonetheless, it was the only option for a modern automobile without a tape player.

Setup was not too hard, but the usability of the frequency switch button is not so great. It's basically one teeter-totter switch for three frequencies. It's sometimes hard to hit the middle position.

Now to the really bad part: I have a Nano 3G. When I connect it to the transmitter, the Nano almost always locks up requiring a reset. Once reset, it works - until the next time you connect it. Now this doesn't happen with the 2G, so it could be a problem on Apple's end as well. But since this unit claims to work with the 3G, there's really no excuse on Kensington's part.

The other really annoying thing that affects all iPods is that it will just start playing from wherever in your music list (after having owned this for a year I still do not understand the logic). So if you want to pick up the play-list or podcast from where you left off, you will have to go searching for it. Every time!

This may be as good as it gets for a FM transmitter. I don't know since this is the only one I own, and I will probably never buy another one. If you have ANY other method of connecting, pick that first.

4works great  Jan 07, 2009
Works great. Only con is trying to find an open station in an area with lots of stations.
