Philips 2.1 Home Theatre System Jul 20, 2009 For small spaces, this 2.1 works great. I've enjoyed the quality of the product!! My guess it would be good in bigger spaces too. I'm very happy with my purchase.
For the price - this is excellent! Jun 20, 2009 I think for the price, this is an excellent system. Granted, I just got it today and started using it now - but the quality is good, the volume is amazing and the subwoofer is great. The system comes with a lot of good accessories and the design is very sleek. Obviously, it does not fulfill people looking for true 5.1 but, again, for this price it's well worth it.
I am a bit confused as to why it does not have an optical input/output. I think that's the only thing I found lacking in this system.

Need to update firmware to get decent sound-Easy update Apr 27, 2009 Purchased woot--204.00 special and received unit with version 31 firmware which made unit sound very thin, like an old small transistor radio. Lacked bass no matter what setting I used. Upgraded firmware to current version 34 and sound improved greatly (fuller sound) with a definite increase in bass sound. No longer cheap & tin sounding, but not high end either. Worth price I paid(included shipping) for use in den/guest room. Box is heavy at 50-lbs, as sub woofer is heavy due to large speaker and electronics contained in wood cabinet. Nice look with glossy black finish on all pieces. Easy to set up with color coded cables and special connectors. Radio receives all local FM stations, but lacks desired HD Radio tuner as do most current systems unless you purchase high end pricey receivers. (Note: To use an external antenna instead of the included wire antenna you need a push on cable connector, like the cheap cables included with a vcr. Unit does not accept screw on cable antenna connectors.) Console display can be dimmed through menu setting and is unobtrusive even when in use. Power is supplied through sub woofer unit and total electric usage is under 50 watts, substantially less that the 130++ watts that my 5.1 channel Pioneer receiver uses. Front speakers are about 16-1/2" high & 6" wide (around 4" taller than a PS3 game console). Sub is about 11-1/2" square & 17-1/2" tall, provides the missing bass that the small front speakers are unable to produce, but it is not room shaking with its sound. To check firmware version, push the open/close button (to open door) then the display button. (As the other reviewer stated, you can update the unit for region free use at this point using the 5 digit number code found in google search, which is input at this time-with door open. It works and can be revised/reversed to any other region through last digit used after nine's. Changing regions gives you the ability to play region-2 UK DVDs or those from other foreign countries.) Strongly recommend that you update firmware if not at least version 34. Would not pay more than two hundred and four incl s&h. Well worth price I paid for use with second TV.

Great Sound from a small system Apr 05, 2009 The only caveat (and the reason for 4, not 5 stars) on this system is that the sub woofer is MUCH larger than it appears in the pictures. If you are looking for a really small system you may want to look further, however, the larger speakers allow for larger, more room filling sound.
We carried this system to a friends 50th b day party where approximately 50 people were there and it was above a bar. Several people asked about the system and where could they get one. The sound was that good. It filled the whole room and people were dancing to it. We did not even have to turn it up to far to get the sound.
Crisp and Clear at all volume levels.

Nice system, but not as good as 5.1 Jul 01, 2008 I have had this unit for about 2 months now. It works good and looks real sleek. The sound is good with movies although not as good as true 5.1 surround sound. You don't get the sounding travelling over your head.
But I did not want the wires going around my house and so a 2.1 system worked fine for me. This is pretty similar to the Boss, but a third of the price.
It is easy to make multi-regional. I just googled "region hack hts-6600" and found an easy code to type in on the remote. I did that and now can enjoy DVD's from any region in the world.
The only problem was that I found on a couple of occasions the remote did not work on the main DVD menu. After trying different stuff I realized that the center wheel button was pressed down and caught on the side of the plastic. Once I released this, I worked just fine.
