5Best earbuds ever!!  Jul 12, 2010
I just purchased a pair of these and they are the best ever. I use them when I am on my motorcycle, no more wind noise, and I can clearly hear my music at two thirds volume. If your a rider, get a pair!

3Should've bought the Klipsch  Jul 12, 2010
I read a ton of reviews and still couldn't make up my mind between the Shures and the equivalent Klipsch earbuds. So I bought one pair of each for Christmas and let my husband pick his favorite. He picked the Klipsch. Let's just say I married a smart man.

The Klipsch are lighter and fit inside both of our ears better (his ears are bigger; mine are tiny). The gel buds are more comfortable and easier to attach. Most importantly - his Klipsch are still working, whereas my Shures short out whenever the cord gets even slightly bent. So now I'm back to my crappy iPhone earbuds.

In short - if in doubt, buy the Klipsch. They'll be on my Christmas list.

2Clarity and little else.  Jul 10, 2010
I've had the SE110s practically since they were released and have revisited them many times in hopes of falling in love with them. This has never happpened, however, so I'm finally ready to write a review for them. Coming from a respected audio giant like Shure, I initially expected these to blow me out of the water; I forgot to factor in that these are Shure's entry-level IEMs, though. Keeping that in mind, I'll touch upon the positives with these headphones first:

-Build quality: Shure are notorious for making near-indestructible phones, and the SE110s are no exception. The cable is thick and slightly rigid and the buds themselves, while plastic, are solidly built. The phones themselves feature a very short cable and an extension cable is included. This creates less cable strain between the 3.5mm connection to whatever device the phones are plugged into and helps reduce the possibility of damage if the cord is suddenly yanked. Well thought out on Shure's part.

-Noise Isolation: These phones feature superb attenuation of outside noise with the provided rubber tips, and even better isolation with the included foam olives. You could have a fire truck three feet behind you, sirens blaring, and not hear it with these phones on. Whether that's good or bad is up to the individual listener, but one thing is certain: Shure wants you to hear your music and only your music, and hear your music you will.

-Clarity: These phones make use of a balanced armature speaker in each phone as opposed to a dynamic driver widely used in cheaper headphones. This provides for greater detail, improved treble, clarity, and very bright reproduction of mid and high frequencies. These phones have a very "forward" sound, and fare well with vocal-centric music and rock.

And now, for the negatives:

-Size/Comfort: The SE110s are larger than most IEMs from other manufacturers and higher-end Shure phones. They do not share that "barely there" feeling that smaller in-ears have. After a while (usually an hour to an hour and a half for me) they become uncomfortable to wear and I have to take them out. It starts to feel like I have tiny rocks stuffed into my ears. If you're they type who likes to sleep with headphones on, forget about it.

-Overall sound quality: The drawback to use of a balanced armature is that they produce an anemic amount of bass. I'm no bass fiend, but I do like a bit; if there was such a thing as negative bass, these phones produce it. The sound suffers from poor imaging; the soundstage is extremely narrow and everything sounds like it's coming from one place. The near-complete exclusion of the lower frequencies creates an extremely unbalanced sound, especially in hip-hop and other varieties of bass-heavy music. At higher volumes, the sound is especially bright to the point of being too harsh and fatiguing to listen to comfortably. I've found that in bass-heavy tracks, while the SE110s enhance certain aspects of the music, they detract overall because they remove the "punch" the track was originally intended to have. In general, they make listening to music a lot less fun.

In summation, these phones leave much to be desired. This can be partially blamed on the fact there is only one armature running the show in each bud and there is no mechanism to compensate for the lost low-end. If you're looking for a more balanced sound, I'd suggest trying out something which feature two armatures in each earbud, which allow for excellent soundstage, increased efficiency, smoother overall reproduction and detail, and a moderate but not overpowering amount of bass; some phones even throw in a dynamic driver in addition to the armatures for dedicated bass reproduction. Great examples of the former and the latter would be the Klipsch Custom-2 and Custom-3 in-ear phones.

2Shure Earbuds!  Jul 04, 2010
I'm extremely disappointed with these new Shure's!
I've had some in the past and was very satisfied,
but these don't have any of the same sound qualities
and don't stay in my ears as well. I would not recommend
this model and might not buy any Shure products again.

1I expected more.  Apr 25, 2010
I expected more. They are very bad earphones I ever heard. First, they fit so bad (the smallest one doesnt work for me), second they have gross sound! My sony for about $10 has better sound and fit. I was so disappointed.
