With its built-in docking station and clean, contemporary design, the iHome iH5 clock radio is the perfect complement for your Apple iPod digital music player. Not only does the iH5 let you listen to your iPod music free from cumbersome headphones, it also lets you fall asleep or wake to music you've loaded into your iPod. You can also wake or sleep to FM/AM radio or wake to a traditional buzzer.

The compact unit measures roughly 9 x 3 x 6 inches (W x H x D) yet comes complete with stereo speakers, drift-free digital FM/AM radio tuning, a multifunction LCD with adjustable backlighting, and the ability to charge your docking iPod's battery right from its center seat. (The iH5 includes handy inserts to accommodate any type of docking iPod: gen 3, gen 4, iPod mini, or iPod photo.)

Immediately upon plugging it in and the clock will set itself, drawing on its factory-installed 100-year calendar (year/month/day, 2000 to 2099). The clock will maintain accuracy all on its own, even self-adjusting for Daylight Savings time and leap years.

Fall asleep to your favorite station or a carefully chosen iPod playlist using the unit's programmable sleep timer (15 to 120 minutes in 15-minute increments). Gradual Wake and Gradual Sleep features will increase (with on wake-up) or decrease (on sleep) the system volume so as not to startle you. Adjustable sleep volume lets you select a comfortable "sleep" volume level without affecting the wake-to or listening volume levels.

A supplied analog audio interconnect affords hookups with non-docking iPods, other MP3 players, cassette players, or other audio devices. Other features include automatic frequency control (AFC) for enhanced FM reception, an amber backlight on all primary buttons, and optical knobs for precise volume/tuning.

For extra security, if you've selected iPod as your wake-to source and your iPod isn't docked, a buzzer will sound instead. The clock also comes with Sure Alarm battery backup--just install 2 AA batteries to activate the feature. In the event of a power failure, or if you disconnect the AC power cord to move it, the Sure Alarm system will maintain your clock and alarm setting for the life of the batteries, ensuring that the alarm will sound at the set time.

The iH5 is "Made for iPod"-certified by Apple.

2Great sound, but beware of control quality  Dec 05, 2009
I have had this item for about 6 months. The sound, and features are great, but the overall quality of the controls are very lacking to say the least. The only control that I really use is the volume control. After the first 4 months I noticed that it was becoming increasing difficult to control the volume. Seeing that it is digital, the volume would suddenly go from say 10 to 35 in one movement. If I attempted to adjust the volume down, it would continue to increase. The quality of the servo is very poor. Other than suddenly blowing out your other office workers ear drums, it is great.

5Takes a beating & would buy again  Nov 18, 2009
I have owned this product for almost 2 years now, it is the best alarm clock I have ever owned. Love the Ipod feature, that is why I bought it. Just like waking up to nice soft music in the morning. Kinda starts the day off nice. Only problem I have had with it was one night I was drinking a little too much, and knock a beer all over it. I did the ah $&^%* and quickly clean it off. I know this Alarm clock is not water proof nor beer proof, So I thought I was going to have to purchase a new one. Well from the day on this unit, is still working perfectly and the beer dried up. So it can take a beating or I just luckly. Who knows. But she is still running like a champ. Worth every cent. And have beer on me:)

1CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP  Oct 18, 2009
Don't waste your money with an iHome product of any kind - including this one. Three years ago, I spent nearly $100 on a clock radio so that I could have a convenient charger for the iPod and an iPod clock radio. Several times in the last three years, I've had problems with the iPod function working properly and today the iPod connection is finally toast. What a waste of money.

I'm going back to Sony. I've never had a problem with Sony electronics and will NEVER waste my money again on any iHome products. What a waste.

1Save your money, buy something else  Aug 07, 2009
This thing is a piece of junk. I've had mine for 7 months and it has failed already. As others have complained, the display is way too bright. You could signal outer space with the 500000 lumens display. If that wasn't bad enough, the display started to fail by flickering all night long. I should have sold this thing to some night club. They could use it for the lighting system on their dance floor. Finally the back lighting on the display quit last month and I could no longer see what time it was without the lights on in the room. While that's a nuisance, its better than having the alien blue light shinning from the iHome. Also, it has been mentioned that the wake up volume on the early models is beyond loud(and I like my music loud). I won't have to worry about that either as now my alarm function has died and I've woken up late for work a couple days in a row. In summary, only buy this thing if you want a clock that you can't see, an alarm function that makes your ears bleed (when it works), and only lasts 7 months.

5Great Clock Radio & docking station  Jul 26, 2009
This is so convenient. It's a great clock radio, docking station, charging unit for Ipods, Ipod speaker system. Very good sound quality for a unit it's size, and is sleek and sharp looking too!
